Headboard

This headboard took my husband and I about an hour to make and cost less than $40.00. SIMPLE!
Items needed and my cost:
Plywood or OSB ($6)
Foam (Free - already had it)
Note: The thickness of the foam is up to you. We had an old memory foam pad that we used. You could buy some thick (EXPENSIVE) foam, or put two egg foam pads together with smooth/flat sides out.
Upholstery or heavy duty material to cover it ($7.00 - clearance section!)
Batting ($15.00)
Note: Batting can be as thick as you want. I think I used 1" or 1.5". It is mainly to hold things in place.
Staple gun and staples
Note: When stapling in this project start in the middle top, put a staple or two, then do the same at the bottom, making sure it is straight and tight. Then work out to sides. Do the same for the sides.
Saw to cut wood to size of bed (we used a circular saw)

Directions:
Measure bed across top for dimensions. I suggest adding and inch or two for comfort, but not necessary.
Then cut the plywood to length. Plywood comes 4x8'. I suggest keeping the 4' height, but you can also trim that down a bit too, making whatever shape your little heart desires. We just angled the corners in a bit.
Next lay your foam out and cut it to shape, leaving about 3-4 inches extra all the way around. Staple it in a few places to tack it down. Then do the same thing with the batting, but you are going to staple it all over- every 3 inches or so. This will protect the material from the edges of the wood and will also help hold the foam in place. Then cut your fabric leaving about 6 inches or as much as possible around. Why 6 inches? Because the overlap will also go over the batting and then you won't keep hitting the staples under the material. Not a necessity, but handy. So last step is stapling your material. Make sure to check it often for smoothness on the front. Your now done. Go squish it up against the wall with your bed and enjoy!
